Celebrating Uist literature during Book Week Scotland. Events every night of the week, interviews with authors by Kathleen MacInnes, as well as poetry, music, film and much more.
Fàilte ro na h-uile!
In 2014 Sgoil Lionacleit produced ‘An Tilleadh’, an anthology of the best writing by former pupils spanning a period of twenty years.
During Book Week Scotland, every evening Ceòlas will celebrate this publication by presenting some of the stories from the book, read by the authors themselves. Each reading is followed by interviews with Kathleen MacInnes, exploring how their interest in language and literature at school continued with them into adult life. Programmes start at 6.45 pm each evening.
On Friday 20th November at 6.00 pm, Ceòlas presents a brilliant collaboration from two neighbouring townships in South Uist.
Sandy NicDhòmhnaill Jones (Frobost) and Gillebrìde Mac’Illemhaoil (Milton) present ‘Piobrachadh na Ceòlraidh: Togail-Inntinn gus Bàrdachd agus Ceòl Gàidhlig a Sgrìobhadh’. Interspersed with song and poetry, both their own and others, the event sees the two artists discuss their urge to write and the sources of inspiration on which they draw for Gaelic Poetry and Music. The evening will also premiere a newly commissioned poem from Sandy - ‘Taladh Uibhist – Uist’s Call’. We are grateful for the assistance of the Scottish Book Trust, Ceòlas Uist, An Comunn Gàidhealach and Comhairle nan Leabhraichean in staging this event.
Each event will posted live on the Ceòlas Facebook Page at 6.45 pm
